ZACHARY BRISCO RUCKER
Prominent Young Citizen Succumbs To Long Illness

Born April 26th, 1883; married Miss Georgia Freeman, July 22nd 1912: died December 245th, 1912, aged 27 years, 7 months ,and 28 days. These are the leading facts, but they are not all.

He joined the Baptist church at Mountain Creek in his boyhood, went to Atlanta, Ga., at about the age of twenty where he engaged in the railway service, first in the baggage, and later in the express messenger service on the run from Atlanta to Monroe, N. C. Later he accepted a position as local express messenger for the night service in Charlotte. Tiring of these responsibilities he began the study of pharmacy, graduating at Chapel Hill and successfully passing the State Board of Pharmacy at Oxford, October 15th, 1910. As a doctor of pharmacy he had employment at least three of the drug houses of Charlotte besides work in the drug department of the Henrietta Mills Store, this county.

His health had been perceptibly declining for the past two years, and had been forced to take treatment in the hospitals at Charlotte and here. He left the hospital here the second and last time December 17th, going home to die just one week later.

He was the second of the then five living children of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Rucker and was a universal favorite among his many acquaintances. That he died in full triumphs of the Christian faith was fully assured. Besides his father and mother, three brothers. Dr. A. A. Rucker, H. Morgan Rucker, John B. Rucker, one sister Miss Nannie Sue Rucker: and widow, of five months, Mrs. Georgia Rucker, with a host of relatives and friends, survive.

The funeral services conducted by Revs. R. H. Herring and D. J. Hunt were largely attended after which his body was laid to rest in the family burying ground to await the resurrection of the just.
