Born on May 7. 1842. Enlisted in Rutherford County at age 20, July 14, 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Sergeant. Reported present through June 30, 1863. Appointed Hospital Steward on June 1, 1863. Captured at Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, September 9, 1863. Sent to Louisville, Kentucky. Confined at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois, September 26, 1863. Paroled and transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, February 20-21, 1865, for exchange. Exchanged on an unspecified date. Hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia, March 1, 1865, with an unspecified complaint. Furloughed on March 7, 1865. Survived the war.
