The son of Rev. John and Alice Jackson Walker. He was working in a ship yard in Wilmington, NC during WWII and stay at the Cozy Cottage. The Cozy Cottage was operated by Mrs. Hattie Cox and assisted by her granddaughter Viola Black. With in a year of their meeting Wistar and Viola were married. Wis was drafted into the U.S. Marines and was served as a half-track landing craft pilot. He returned to Gastonia after the war. He and Viola were the proud parents of one son and two daughters. Wistar Garrett, Jr, 1944; Lynn Alice 1952; Kelly Sue 1958. Wistar was a machinist and a successful textile part salesman. He looked a lot like Gary Cooper and at times Boris Karloff. The combination of working with asbestos in the ship yard and smoking up to 4 packs a day contributed to his death of cancer. He had a most unusual laugh which is missed these many years later.

Born on the Groves Mill village to Loyd and Rosa Black. Was first of 3 daughters (Margaret 1921, Frances Eunice 1927). First husband was Frank Austin with whom she had two sons (Gene 1934, Darrell 1935). Divorced. Married Wistar Garret Walker and had one son (Garrett 1944) two daughters (Lynn Alice 1952, Kelly Sue 1958).
