Funeral services for Albert Lafayette “Jack” Hart, 95, of Lindsay were held Nov. 8, 2004 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell with the Rev. Dan Frisby officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home.
Mr. Hart died Nov. 4, 2004 at Norman Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 15, 1909 in Amber, Okla., one of eight children of Franklin Hart and Gertrude Hefner Hart. The family moved to “the old home place” at Ninnekah in 1916 where he attended Ninnekah, Okla., schools, graduating from Ninnekah High School in 1931.
Over the years he was a top hand in many occupations including dozer operator, constuction with REA and a machinist. In 1957 he returned to his roots on “the new old-home place” south of Criner where he had first moved with his father in 1939.
It was here he met his true love, Sybil Nurene Hardage. They were married Nov. 2, 1940 in Chickasha. Together they raised two sons, Colin and Michael, who began their lives on “the home place” near Criner.
Mr. Hart was recognized as one of the best at knowing when grain was ready to harvest, hay was ready to cut and “in case” for baling, when to sow crops, or most anything else concerning farming. He was known and respected for his honesty and hard work.
He was in demand to do custom work such as combining, swathing and baling by other farmers in the area. One of his joys on the Criner home place was the relationship with his brother, Raymond, and neighbor, R.L. Wells, who owned adjoining farms. They helped each other plow, disk, cut and bale hay, work cattle and any of the myriad of other tasks that go with farming.
No one kept track of what they had done for the other and each tried to do the most for the other. It was a relationship based on trust, loyalty and deep friendship that lasted almost 50 years. We, his sons, have been proud that he was still farming at the age of 94 until his stroke in April. He passed on the values of honesty, hard work, perseverance and loyalty to his sons and to a host of nieces and nephews who knew him affectionately as “Uncle Jack.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil; his parents, Franklin and Gertrude Hart; a grandson, Jason Levi Hart; two sisters, Lucille and Dora; and three brothers, George, John and Larkin.
Survivors include two sons, Colin Hart of Purcell and Michael Hart and his wife, Nancy, of Townsend, Mont.; one grandson, Justin of Bozeman, Mont.; a sister, Grace Scott of Gainesv
