Misc. Notes
Mrs. Mary Elliott, wife of Mr. John C. Elliott, of Cuba, after an illness of two weeks, died at her home Wednesday night at 10 o'clock and will be buried at Gilboa Methodist Church tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. She was the oldest child of Sheriff and Mrs. M. H. Kilpatrick, of Green Hills, this county, and was born June 12, 1842. She joined the Methodist church when twelve years of age. Later her membership was transferred to Gilboa Church, where it remained until her death.
She was married to John C. Elliott, February 1, 1871. Of the four children born to this union, Annie Laura, died at the age of eight months; the other three survive and are: Madison L. Elliott, of Williamantle, CT; Eula, wife of Dr. G. P. Reid; and Mary Lela, wife of Charley moss; both of Forest City.
Mrs. Elliott has been declining in health for some years from some chronic stomach trouble, which did not develop into an acute form, until two weeks ago; but the immediate cause of her death was due to heart failure.
We have known her since we were children, played hand in hand when we were only six years old, and she has ever been one of our truest and best friends.
At an early age, she became an orphan and the care of her five younger sisters all devolved upon her. She lived to see them all grown and happily married. She was a devoted wife, an indulgent mother and best of all a humble follower of the lowly Nazarene. Her whole life had been one of labor, suffering and anxiety, but with a love broad enough to encompass the world and touch eternity. Now, after duty so nobly done how inexpressibly sweet must be her rest!
