A Mother in Zion Gone
Mrs Manda A. Ledbetter, widow of Dr. J. Ledbetter, was born in November 1834 and died Aug. 28th (should have said 21th), 1891, age 56 years and 9 months. Had she lived three quarters of an hour longer she would have lived the same number of days and hours as her husband lived. She left six children, all married but one, to mourn her departure. She has been an invalid for several months.
She went to Roam, Ga. for medical treatment under Dr. Batty, but everything that medical skill, loving hands of children and willing hands of friends could do, yet the dreadful disease claimed her in death.
She was a member of M.E. Church South. She lived an exemplary member till her death. She loved the church and was consecrated to the work of the master. Her faithful devotation to her Savior had a deep and far reaching influence. She had christian grace so well developed in her character and so beautifully inbeded in her life that it was a benediction to be associated with her.
There were few women that surpass Sister Ledbetter in the ability to do her double duty of making her home pleasant for her children and yet keeping open doors to many friends who would come to enjoy its hospitality.
Let all her children embrace that grace that gave her peace in a dying hour, and walk in her foot-steps that they may in time to come be permitted to meet her in that land upon whose blissfull shore there rests no shadow falls no stain where long parted shall meet again.
Her remains were interned in the Montford's Cove Cemetery. May God's blessings on the bereaved children and confort them during their bereavements.
