Betty Vickers Smith, age 65, of Old Caroleen Road, Forest City, N.C., died Monday, January 28, 2013 at her residence.

Betty was born March 27, 1947 in Rutherford County, N.C. to the late Pat Vickers and Louise McFalls Vickers.

She was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1965 and worked in the textile industry most of her life, having worked for Burlington Industries and Cone-Jacquard. She enjoyed travelling, reading, knitting, crocheting and cooking. She was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Crystal Hicks; one brother, Ricky Vickers and two sisters, Barbara Fowler and Brenda Buckner.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Don Smith; one daughter, Candice Little of Caroleen; one step-daughter, Deborah Bowen and husband, Jimmy of Rutherfordton; two step-sons, Jeffrey Smith of Spindale and Phillip Smith and wife, Cindy of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Charles Vickers and wife, Judy of Caroleen and Roger Vickers of Henrietta. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Burton Joshua Little, Jordan Hicks, Nicole Bowen, Tyler Smith, Shelton Smith and Wesley Smith and four great-grandchildren, Haley Smith, Kaley Smith, Jerry Charles Jenkins IV and Travis Smith.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Cool Springs Cemetery with Chaplain Hattie Williams officiating. The family will receive friends
immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Rutherford County for their compassionate care and kindness during Betty's illness.
