Augusta, GA - Frances Walton passed away January 10, 2014 at the age of 97 in Jacksonville, FL where she resided for the past 2 years. Before that she lived in Augusta, GA since moving there in 1951. She was born on June 18th 1916 in Chattanooga, TN and moved to Atlanta, GA where she grew up. The oldest of 6 children she is survived by her younger sister Adele Mortimer of Tallahassee, FL.

Frances married Edwin Cornelius Walton on March 19, 1938. They were married 54 years until he died on May 31, 1995. They were survived by 2 children, Chuck (Edwin Charles) and Bob (Robert James) Walton. She was also survived by three grandchildren: Piper Sims, Eric Walton and Anna Walton and five great grandchildren: Adam Walton-9 years, twins Yesmeen and Yusef - 4 years, Reagan Sims -3 years and Kylie Sims-3 months.

Frances learned to play bridge at the age of 12 and loved playing ever since. She was an avid crossword puzzle player and reader. She loved playing Scrabble, putting puzzles together, and trivia. Bible Study was an important part of her life.

Frances spent many years visiting and caring for older friends. As a member and President of the Live Oak Garden Club, Frances headed efforts to both cleanup and to beautifying some of Augusta's streets and intersections. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Augusta Country Club.

Mrs. Walton kept her mind sharp to the very end; she never missed sending cards for a birthday or anniversary. She loved surprising people with her quiet wit and charm. She loved meeting new people and made friends easily because she cared about them and took the time to know them. She always put others first and tried to make them feel comfortable. She touched many lives enriching both theirs and hers.

Frances Walton will be missed by many people. She was a "Real Gracious Southern Lady".

A graveside service was held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating.
