CHESNEE, SC -- Charles William "Billy" Gibbs, Sr. 69 of 1303 Hwy. 11, Chesnee, SC (formerly of Mill Spring, NC) died Monday, June 29, 2009 in Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg, SC.
Born in Polk County, NC, he was the son of the late Stanley J. and Beatrice Wilson Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs retired from Milliken, Hatch Plant in Columbus, NC after 35 years of service. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Chesnee, SC.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Grigg Gibbs of the home. One son, Charles "Billy" Gibbs, Jr. (Theresa) of Mill Spring, NC; one daughter Dr. Brenda Baker of Wilmington, NC; one step-son, Danny Steven Gosnell of Inman, SC; two step-daughters, Darlene Jones of Inman, SC and Donna Garrett of Boiling Springs, SC. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Noell and Sarah Gibbs and six step-grandchildren, Isabella Jones, Amanda Brookshire, Danny E.J. Gosnell, Joshua Gosnell, Amber Garrett and Haley Shropshire.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Coopers Gap Baptist Church Cemetery in Mill Spring, NC with Rev. Randy Shields, Rev. Eugene Passimore and Rev. Tommy Turner officiating.
