Graveside service for Pauline Kirklen Vanis Hefner, 96, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be 10:00 am. Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Highland Cemetery with Jim Antwine, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hefner passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Pauline was born on December 18, 1913 on a farm east of Elgin, Oklahoma to Hickson and Gertrude (Russell) Kirklen.

She graduated from Fletcher High School in 1932. She received her BS in Elementary Education from Southwestern State College, in Weatherford, Oklahoma and her Masters in Education from the University of Oklahoma. She taught one year at Roseland Rural School and 29 years at B. C. Swinney Elementary, before retiring in 1976. She married Charles G. Vanis in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1985. She later married R. M. (Sox) Hefner in 1988. He preceded her in death in 1995.

She is survived by her daughter, Carla Moore, of Lawton; her son and daughter in law, Charles L. Vanis and Robby Snow, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Sybil Fegette, of Henderson, Nevada; her sister in law, Minnie Kirklen, of Lawton, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, three great-grand children; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; four brothers; and one sister.
