LESLIE RAY Leslie Joan Ray died on August 24, 2025. She left this world quietly and peacefully. Leslie was kind, empathetic, generous, and compassionate. She lived her life with courage, humor, unwavering integrity, selflessness, loyalty to her friends, and love for her family. She stood up for equality and fairness. She always knew what was important. She was an accomplished weaver. She had an innate understanding of the interplay of color, texture, and pattern that she used to design and create beautiful fabrics and rugs. She gave away nearly everything she wove. Leslie loved camping on the Salmon River, in the piñon-juniper forest, and on the Pacific coast. She was always up for a trip to a new place. She enjoyed and cared about wild animals, birds, wild flowers, and wild places. She was an avid reader of newspapers, periodicals, and print books. She was a formidable opponent at Scrabble. She cared deeply about people. She devoted her working careers as a registered nurse and a certified speech therapist to helping others. She was a volunteer nurse at the free clinic in McCall, and after the passage of the Affordable Care Act, she helped people enroll in health insurance plans. Leslie was married to Charles Ray. She was a devoted mother to their sons, Andrew E. Ray and Brian A. Ray. She made a warm, loving home, and she always did her best to make life good for her family. She homeschooled her children for several years. She greatly enjoyed her grandsons, and she always looked forward to their extended visits. Leslie was born on May 21, 1952, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Robert Cordell and Joan MacDonell Cordell. She enjoyed her childhood in Sioux City, Iowa, and spent her teen years in Memphis, Tennessee. She lived in McCall, Idaho, for 34 years. She earned a BS in Nursing from the University of Tennessee and a MS in Speech-Language Pathology from Idaho State University. She is survived by her husband for 51 years, Charles Ray, of McCall, Idaho, son Andrew Ray of Red Lodge, Montana, and his wife Jacque Papez, son Brian Alexander Ray of Mt. Shasta, CA , and two grandsons, Ambrose and Sylvan Ray, of Montana. She leaves three brothers Bob Cordell, Jerry Cordell, and Mike Cordell, and three sisters Susan Jenkins, Jennifer Walls, Jayme Armstrong, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of Leslie's life will be held on Sunday, September 21, from 2:00 'til 4:00 PM, at the Lakeview Shelter near the visitor's center at Ponderosa State Park.
